July 3-5
Last weekend, Nathan drove in from Ohio to visit and help us celebrate my grandma’s birthday :) I had Friday off for the 4th of July, so we drove down to Gettysburg while Matt and Shelby came in from Philly. We all shared lunch (bbq sandwiches, deviled eggs, fresh fruit, chips) and grandma opened her birthday presents. During the afternoon, we shot clay pigeons and sat out by the fish pond. We went out to dinner at Hickory Bridge around 5. It’s always a delicious meal there and I got coffee and a hot fudge sundae to top it off :)
On Saturday, Nathan and I went to Susquehanna University so I could show him where I work. It was a rainy day, but we still got to explore part of campus and visit my office. Nathan treated me to lunch and to the movies - we went to see Jurassic World. I enjoyed it! It was an exciting movie. I liked how they told the story of a fully operating dinosaur theme park. And I was happy to see some stegosaurus briefly.
That evening we took it easy. We played Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and watched some fireworks. "How about this little red wagon? This red fez? This white cane? It was touched by Queen Victoria."
On Sunday, we went to church and ate at Perkins afterward. It had been years since I ate there. After getting my fill of pancakes, I took a nap :) We watched Jurassic Park III that evening and then got ready for the week ahead. Nathan left on Monday and I went back to work. It was a very busy and challenging week of work. Whew, this month is going to be a challenge, but I’m not backing out.
Nathan brought a gift for me, too! A white sea turtle from the aquarium in North Carolina. His name is Nimbus :)
July 10-12
This weekend I was ready to rest. I spent Saturday morning outside watching the birds. Jenny wren was singing in the pines, a bluebird came to visit briefly, a family of chipping sparrows were out hopping around, and a crow was investigating the garden.
Saturday evening I participated in a 501st troop at the Harrisburg Senators baseball game. Dad, Mom, and I drove down and we met up with the group. We got dressed and then went out to start greeting folks as they came in. Kids and adults were tickled to see us :) This was the first time that Mom and Dad had seen us in action, so they got some pictures, too! It was also the first time that I took out my DL-21 blaster. I was a little nervous because I wasn’t sure how it would hold up, but it did well. In attendance we had three stormtroopers, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, a Shadow Guard, a Clone Trooper, and a Jawa.
Today is Sunday. We studied more of Jesus’ sermon on the plain, discussed questions together, ate some chicken and veggies for lunch, and now are starting to rest. Whew, I’m tired.
Watch out! They have blasters!
