Evaluation
Last Friday, my parents took me up to New York state for an ASD evaluation. The drive was very nice across PA and up into the mountains of NY. Just after we crossed the Delaware River, we found ourselves behind two electrical trucks - one of which was towing an electrical pole behind it. I had never seen that before!
We ate lunch together at Friendly's, one of my favorite restaurants. And the staff were indeed quite friendly :) We ran out of time for ice cream, but we made it to the Center for Spectrum Services just in time for a brief fire drill! I felt a little out-of-place while everyone else checked in, but soon we were inside and registered as on-site visitors. The doctor appeared just as we were finishing and warmly welcomed us. I was so happy to meet her and so relieved to have her help. After about eight months of searching and researching, I had finally reached the last step in the process toward receiving an answer. I felt that I was in good hands there - both in the care of this kind doctor and in the care of the kind God.
The evaluation consisted of a series of tests - visual puzzles, number exercises, vocabulary, open-ended questions, coding, pattern completion, story-telling, etc. I felt like I had completed a week's worth of mental exercise all within the span of three hours! I have to say, it was rather fun :) After we finished, the doctor told me that she will set up a meeting for us to talk in about two weeks. During the meeting, she'll explain the purpose of these tests and what they reveal. I'm very curious to know what I'll learn, but more than that I feel a wave of relief at having finished my part of this quest.
That evening, we visited a friend in the hospital and sat down at another Friendly's for ice cream. Two Friendly's in two states in one day... That's what happens when you have a Megan around! We were all exhausted from a long day of travel and adventure. I spent Saturday visiting my Grandparents where we watched two good football games, made hamburg's and hotdogs for dinner, and celebrated my Mom's birthday (only a week late!). On Sunday, I worshiped with my family at church and then caught the bus back to DC. I had to work at the Library Monday, today, and tomorrow. On Thursday, I'm headed to Gettysburg for Thanksgiving. Then, sadly, I'm headed back home to a funeral for our friend who finished her race of faith earlier this week. May God comfort her family and keep us all until the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
