Last night before I went to bed, I read this:
"When God is with us, there is no difference between Nebuchadnezzar's fiery furnace (Dan. 3:19) and a comfortable bed. It does not matter! We will be happy in either. If God is with us, if His divine love surrounds us...we can say with Moses, "Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations" (Ps. 90:1)." -Beside Still Waters by Spurgeon (ed. Clarke), page 3
In the place of "fiery furnace", I tried to substitute, "my workplace." My bed seemed a whole lot more comfortable than my workplace, though! But as I thought about it, I came to see that I am not all alone to tread water in this big world alone. No matter where I go, my God is with me. That means that He is there with me at that cubical in the office, with me as I go to church, with me no matter where I go. And if the Creator is there with me, why should I be afraid? He is greater than anything that I might encounter. He is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.
This morning, I found these lines in another book:
"I am well pleased with thy will, whatever it is,
or should be in all respects." -The Valley of Vision, ed. by Bennett, page 5
I read this and had to pause. I was not well pleased. I tried to apply what I had read the previous evening and reread this line of the prayer a few times.
"I rejoice to think that all things are at thy disposal,
and it delights me to leave them there." -ditto
Amen. Jesus said, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) I need to leave the things out of my control with God and not try to take them all on my own shoulders.
Now, I need to get to work on classwork.
