In the
seventh chapter of Holiness, Ryle points out a really interesting aspect of the passage
2 Timothy 4:6-8. He says that Paul:
-"looks downward to the grave, and he does it without fear."
-"looks backward to his ministerial life, and he does it without shame."
-"looks forward to the great day of reckoning, and he does it without doubt."
He goes on to explain that this assurance is based on Christ's finished work and that Paul had a strong sense of it due to his close walk with God. I'm looking forward to reading all these books about the cross so I can gain a clearer understanding and a deeper appreciation for that "sweet exchange."
Isaiah 53:12"...He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors."
Isaiah 61:10"...My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation..."
2 Corinthians 5:21"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine!
