Life Goal and His will

Mar 29, 2007 23:14

I never wanted to set any life goals for myself, since I didn't want to live for myself in this world. It took me a long time to see that I can live for something greater without having to die some tragic death or do something outstanding. It's a simple thing, really; but it is also too complex for this life.

I have always been a follower.

I was just waiting for the one I would chase after.

If someone tells me to go do something, I do it happily and enthusiastically. I can't make decisions quickly on my own, but once I have direction, I work work work till the end! And I can start now! I am called to be a disciple. And what does a true disciple do?

John 8:31 "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples."
The example is given of Abraham. He held fast to God's word, His promises. He did not waver and he did not grow weary and look to something else or dig cisterns to find other water. He looked forward to seeing the promise fulfilled - and when it was, he was glad (John 8:56). Jesus says that His word abides in His disciples. Does God's word abide in me? Does it come to mind, written on the tablet of my heart and on my lips in stead of cursing and judgment? To be a disciple, I need to ask myself a lot of questions and seek to take God's word to heart in a very concrete way.

I want to do God's will. I have spent years waiting to see what that is, when I could have started a long time ago.

What is God's will?
John 6:40 is part of it.
I Thessalonians 5:18 is another piece, another facet. It goes something like this:

Πάντοτε χαίρετε, ἀδιαλείπτως προσεύχεσθε, ἐν παντὶ εὐχαριστεῖτε· τοῦτο γὰρ θέλημα θεοῦ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ εἰς ὑμᾶς.

in all things rejoice,
without ceasing pray,
in all (things) give thanks
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Now that is something that I can put into daily practice!

will, path, authority, me
