It's not really a proto-pineapple, it's a very large bag I made to go with my Earth/Autumn Artistic Reform ensemble. I find I frequently want a place to put dealer's room purchases at Cons, and I had extra scrumptious changeable brown/green velvet left, and I also wanted a relatively portable example of the 3-D "lattice" smocking I've been proselytizing.
The hand is there for scale. I also had fun with dragonfly knots on the drawstrings, and making my own tassel....but those are other posts.
So many people (at least four) said it looked like a pineapple that I think I must admit, the color of the velvet is pretty close, and the changeableness gives it a depth of texture that's pretty cool. Of course, pineapples actually have a sort of scaly surface, not a velvety one. And ideally, the base color would be ripe gold, not green. Still.
I'm thinking the actual reticule should be closer to the size of the top half of this bag. And I might stitch beads--sequins centered with beads?--into the lattice to bring out the scaly quality. I'm thinking a silver-green taffeta would be ideal for the tuft of leaves on the top....I MUST have something like that in the stash.
Stay tuned!
