I am on a mission. I don't know how I am going to accomplish it just yet. But I will.
My mission is to get one person who is going to vote for John Kerry because "he isn't Bush" to vote for
Michael Badnarik.
I will start today. Let's take Mr. Badnarik's stance on
Gay Marriage. Basically marriage, gay or otherwise, is not an issue for government. Marriage, among consenting adults, is defined by the couple. Communities and churches can, and will, continue condone or condemn gay marriage because that is what freedom allows.
Now let's look at John Kerry's
approach. John Kerry talks about "justice belonging to everyone regardless of race or gender or sexual orientation". However he supports a state ban on gay marriages, in his state of Massachusetts, as long as it was worded to allow for civil unions. How is that justice belonging to everyone...yada, yada? Granted it is a state bad rather than a national ban but it still is discriminatory. Lots of pundits have gone on about how Kerry will legalize same-sex marriage but all the comments I can find indicate that he does not support same-sex marriage (even though the Massachusetts' Supreme Court did), just unions. He is catholic, by the way.
What does George W. Bush have to say? Good luck
finding any information on his site. He is a republican so it shouldn't be too hard to guess what is opinion
is.
Finally,
Ralph Nader. Nader
supports same-sex marriage. Quite a bit different in the details between him and Mr. Badnarik. Mr. Nader, states, the government laws should be equal.
So that takes care of the four large players towards same-sex marriage. Tomorrow I will pick another issue and break it down for you.
This year, like every year, it is so important to vote your conscience. Don't be afraid.
