Since Radiohead are headlining Glastonbury on the Friday Night (we're not going, but the TV coverage is likely to be on), I thought I'd give their new offering a whirl. I'm not one of those people who has universally jizzed over their new direction, it has its' moments but I do prefer their early stuff.
Having seen them play live twice, once at Manchester Arena (where they were great) and once when they headlined Leeds Festival, where they were dire. Soulless, disinterested and not playing a set for anyone other than their hardcore fans, it was terrible. Apart from the first single 'Burn the Witch' on the new EP, I can't help but feel they will struggle on Friday to generate an energy, I hope they prove me wrong though...
Anyway, I'm 'taking one for the team' tonight, I agreed to stay up, as Toni is struggling to sleep in this heat (especially being 8 months pregnant) and the twatcat is so full of energy, she's extended her 'territory' into next door's garden, till they came out to get rid of her! She has since largely been out of the house for the past hour, battling neighbouring cats in the car park, like she is the feline Bruce Lee, rather than a fluffy pensioner cat!
She's just come back in and Toni has had her first urination of the night (pregnancy again, she NEVER does that normally), I guess it's great that I really don't mind staying up late and not getting masses of sleep! This will be especially useful when baby TJ arrives, as Toni CRAVES sleep!
It's so hot, I'm seriously considering trimming my beard. I'm not fucking about.
So, last night there was another 'emergency' Swinton Lions meeting, basically, the club's board wildly overestimated the likely crowd figures at Sale and with there being less prize money than expected (due to us not being in the top 4 but 10th), they are looking to supporters to cover the shortfall...
It's not the first time and I doubt it will be the last either, sadly. It did make me think if the club will genuinely EVER be viable. Or whether we'll need the handouts of benefactors forever, as we've lost a generation of fans by not playing in the Town we are named after for 26 FUCKING YEARS now. It'll be a long road back, even if we do somehow conjure up the funds to build a stadium on the land we have owned for around half a decade now. Bollocks.
