So, it's been another fantastic weekend, with the kickback lasting all week, to be honest.
Friday night was Toni's birthday, the aforementioned Pulp night happened, as did a bunch of other stuff. The plans were delayed slightly when Manchester started to decompose:
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/mancunian-way-hole-closed-traffic-9871612 Meaning that we didn't have an evening meal, neither did some of our friends, that and birthday drinks buying meant that everyone got pretty wasted! It helped though, as the DJ seemed intent on playing the most obscure stuff he loved (including songs entirely in French!) and not the hits. Oh and he hated anything off the last album too. It resulted in some odd scenes though, Christian took photographs of two girls asking me about my t-shirt then said something to them that made them firstly piss themselves and secondly retreat to the opposite side of the room!
Saturday was hungover. Unfortunately for me, I'd also planned to drive us on a surprise trip to North Wales to visit one of the best beach bars in the World:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-23288369 We were served by that beardy fellow in the video! After a slightly perilous three and a half hours of driving, The pub was cracking, it was packed out and the roof is a cluster of lanterns, ship paraphernalia and cartoon depictions of other races:
Anyway, the drive back across North Wales resulted in reappearing back in Caernarfon, where I booked a Hostel for the night. Now, Toni is a bit funny about hostels, thinking that it's going to be full of people dropping pills, talking about their gap years and rubbing excrement on each other with absolutely no privacy.
The place I found was number 1 in the city on Trip Advisor, had a private room and was pretty deserted. Due to the Ty Coch Inn stopping serving food minutes before we arrived and there being absolutely nowhere to park in Caernarfon, it was around nine hours between lunch and the evening meal. So, we ordered a fish platter, fish crumble and Thai prawn curry (hey we were by the sea!)
The entire fish platter was raw and as a result came out immediately, which was awesome; mounds of fresh prawns and fish, we ate till we could barely walk! Then we took obligatory pictures, a good one of Toni and a bad one of me!:
As we were both pretty hungover and been out and about all day, we retired back to our room for some time together and check out a film on their collection of DVDs. We put '127 Hours' on but something was wrong, as the colours resembled this music video...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uuq6HgKgEFQ It kind of worked, granted, I've not seen it as Danny Boyle intended, but I thought it was depicting that he was high riding through the desert, ah well.
I also established that if you walked through the corridor to the bathroom bollock naked, you had the odd experience of being able to watch people in the pub over the road nude, while they were none the wiser! Ha!
The following day, after sleeping beyond the check out time of 10.30 that no one told us about (oops), we grabbed breakfast and decided to head back towards Manchester and check out the first decent beach we saw, all the while enjoying the scenery.
We ended up in Rhos-on-Sea, which was one of those seaside towns where the majority of the residents were shall we say, older than the median age, the weather wasn't great but we still talked loads, read a bit on the beach and paddled in the sea (till a jellyfish appeared on the scene!) The obvious thing to do, was to retire to the pub and also buy rock for the relatives!
Yet more fish was eaten, this time it was mussels in a bucket the size of yo momma's belly! Yeah, I wasn't expecting to put a yo momma's joke in this either. Nom!
All in all, a lovely weekend! A bit of everything, great company throughout, a trip away, copious overeating and drinking, what more could you want from your birthday?!
