It's weird, I believe I touched upon the subject of small music venues being an endangered species on
varsitynj 's journal just the other day, and lo and behold, reality comes along to back me up...
Manchester's Roadhouse will be no more after May 31st:
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/whats-on/rock-music-venue-roadhouse-closes-8876455 Although I had no idea it was only 22 years old (opened when I was 10), so in reality, it was relatively new. It's still been about for my entire adult life that I've frequented Manchester. Even if it is just time moving on, it's sad that another small venue will close, which local or smaller bands were once able to play.
Just a mention of it closing has seen memories gush forward, having Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip's support act rap about a packet of chocolate raisins me and
thelma_viaduct chucked to them from the crowd; Moldy Peaches playing in full animal costumes in a suffocating August heatwave; King Adora (the band I'm playing now) instructing the crowd to "tear the fucking roof down" as the place seemed to bounce as one and then afterwards, a weird Scottish man outside imply that I wasn't a man for NOT trying to fuck my sister!
I even met erstwhile Queens of the Stone Age bassist/wifebeater Nick Oliveri there and my mate Nikki stroked his beard!
I've seen some of my favourite bands there - Sonic Boom Six, Hell is for Heroes' final* Manchester gig and it looks like the last band I will ever see there will be the fantastic, Future of the Left, a fine way to sign off.
Anyway, so long and thanks for the memories, it's been an absolute pleasure!
*well at the time, it was final!
