"If Everyone Needs A Crutch, Then I Need A Wheelchair..!"

That's a quote from the song that is currently playing as I type this, when you read what this post is about, you'll see why I'm so pleased with the self-referential nature of the title of this post. Ha, smug mode!

Anyway, so in a mere 5 days, I will be undergoing this surgery on my hip:

Don't worry! It's not life threatening in any way (although the darkest part of my head keeps on giving me the little nagging feeling that I won't wake up from the operation!) Has anyone else had an operation and thought this in the build up?

The thing is, I have a muscle tear (or two), a microfracture and some early signs of arthritis (perhaps) in my right leg, war wounds from one-too-many games of five-a-side football, 5KM run or crazed moshpit I've been involved with over the years. To be fair though, those were all my choices and I have NO regrets.

I'm also in a good, secure place to do this, as I work for a local authority, I have up to six months on full pay while I recover (they expect that it will be between 1 and 3 months before I am back in action), so the mortgage won't go unpaid but Toni will have to do more cooking!

While it does mean that I will probably miss at on working at a Polling Station in the General Election and sadly this:

It means that I will be available for festivals in the summer, Toni's birthday and to continue Counselling Studies in the Autumn, so it's not all bad.

No hospital stay is anticipated for this either and I may get my old leg back, this could be a LOT worse. I just need to tell my overactive fear of death where to go, don't I?!

it's hip to have hip surgery!
