Download 2014..!
So, today we got back from Download Festival - http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/ - the final day travelling back from a festival is a sad one (and also tough, for many reasons) but I also think it's one of those days that you can't repeat (or experience) without going to a festival yourself, so it's to be treasured.
Treasured, as you look back a fair back over the past weekend and enjoy the afterglow, no festival can be repeated, they all provide unique highlights and I unashamedly love them! It's also an unusual feeling, a kind of weary euphoria that is difficult to replicate.
Anyway, here's a mini guide to essentials for how I survive a post-festival day:
1. Afternoon Sleep! - We got up at 5AM this morning to pack down the tent and catch the 7AM coach, after finishing drinking at 1AM! You're never going to survive till a reasonable time of the evening, as you're already reasonably shattered from the weekend's combination of poor sleep, intoxicating substances and walking/jumping around to bands, so an afternoon sleep is crucial. I slept from Noon till 4, Toni Noon till 6PM and hopefully we'll be asleep from around midnight as a result.
2. Fried Chicken/Chocolate - It started as a tradition of post-festival KFC when we lived over the road from one, which then became any fried chicken place nearby when we moved and today was just cooking pre-bought oven chicken.
Also, I miss chocolate, I bought a pack of 4 white chocolate cookies, it's taken great restraint not to eat them all today.
3. Putting stuff away - Our flat is not massive, making sure that you put the camping stuff back in the storage cupboard makes the flat a lot nicer. If it all lingers about, it's a tad depressing.
4. Using a real toilet - It feels amazing! You appreciate having a toilet so much!
5. Avoiding post-festival comedown - Usually, it's 'easy TV' - Lizard Lick Towing, Jerry Springer or 'Gordon Ramsay Shouts At Obese Americans' or whatever his new one is called. Today, we have the World Cup, which is exciting... until Nigeria and Iran came out and played some atrocious football!
