Anyway, so when the bank holiday didn't contain my pet becoming deceased or my wife getting a work contract at the other end of the country, it was largely pretty good!
After the funeral that is! Me, Toni and her Mum went to her Auntie Tracey's funeral, she just dropped dead suddenly, she wasn't even 50. I only met her once but went for moral support so it was strange to be there, to not be ambivalent, but to be around so many people much more wrapped up in grief over it than I was.
The Wake followed where we saw many of Toni's relatives we rarely get a chance to (and got invited for a holiday in Cornwall!) Toni's Mum got loads of socialising in and hopefully will keep in touch as she got lots of friends and relatives' numbers. Plus I got to see Toni's Gran Pat (who lives in Malta) for the first time in years.
Good Friday saw Swinton also get buried, by Leigh in the Easter derby fixture and my 1KG chocolate egg for Toni arrive, bearing the message: "Toni, congrats you, you AP you!" which would probably make no sense to the person who had to write it! Which was one of the reasons for doing it but also because she got her first 'promotion' in TV, yay!
Then Saturday was an all-day Pottsy Stag Do, featuring a golf driving range, non-league football and then Town; in total 12 hours of drinking! No stops for food meant everyone there from the start got pretty ruined pretty quickly. I can't remember much of the mid-evening. McDonalds around midnight was tasty, so yeah, pretty gone!
I slept it off pretty well and felt good as we headed into Town Sunday night to watch 'Frozen' round Stevo and Jim's. They love Disney musicals more than anyone I know, adult or child! 'Frozen' isn't bad either...
Then, on to the Deaf Institute for a recent rare Britpop night with Toni, Vause, Ben and Mackle. It was great and they played my request, woop:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq0zeyaaUYo I stayed merry as in the morning, it was a long drive to Shrewsbury-ish to meet Toni's other Gran, Beryl. Luckily, I forgive a lot better than Toni does. Her Mum and Dad were building the day up to be as pleasurable as peeling a tramp from the underside of your car, having just run the poor fella over!
It was far from that bad. Grandad Bill is a fascinating fellow, he's travelled the world, been at the forefront of an industry and rode fast motorbikes. Shame he now has Alzheimer's so he will not remember me the next time I see him.
After a detour home via Central Wales, we just about finished the Swinton programme and crashed into bed. Oh and it was Alkaline Trio at the Ritz on the Tuesday night too. Best live performance I've seen from t' Trio, they were ace!
So, moral of the story, enjoy your bank holidays, don't drink on an empty stomach, love passionately and you never know, they might play the odd song request of yours...
