Back at my desk at work.
Tuesday night I did a lot and accomplished little, other than getting myself cold and worked up. I started by installing the new water pump in the tub, it worked, so I started filling it so I could test out the heater and let it run while I was gone for work. After filling for while and confirming that the heater did work I noticed a bunch of water in the base of the tub, and starting to leak out. I traced the leak and pumped the almost full tub out. Tore off the other side of the enclosure to expose the leak, turns out it is a 1-6 manifold that was cracked across the side, the side that didn't have the spray insulation from when they built the tub. Looks like I was a bit late getting the pump in. I ordered it hoping it would show up before we left for
alyska's parents, the shipping date said last Friday, and it showed up the Wednesday we left. So after the tub was drained, whee ice-rink!, I cleaned up the crack in the manifold and ran out for some marine epoxy. The epoxy is designed to cure under water and at cold temperatures. I gooped it all up , put the insulation back around the tub enclosure and placed a small ceramic heater with a thermostat in near the pump to keep any water left in that part of the system from freezing. So far it seems to be working, it has been warm when I pull back a board and stick my hand in, and the heater isn't constantly running.
Wednesday I flew out to Virginia at 7am, about an hour layover in Cincinnati, got there about noon local time. Caught a cab to the hotel, checked in and went across the street to work, almost finished up about 10pm local time. Found some food (Mexican place just up the street,
Baja Bean) and went to back to the hotel to sleep.
Got up Thursday to finish up the last bits of what I needed to do, got done just before noon (with about an hour and a half of waiting for a callback). Wandered along the edge of campus looking for someplace to jump out at me for lunch (hot chocolate from the hotel for breakfast). Found a Japanese place and got a tempura bento box. I wandered some more and when I was going to call a cab company I stumbled across a cab-stand, so I got a ride to the airport. Being about 4 hours early for my flight I wanted to pick up another book as I finished my other one just after getting on the plane in Cincinnati. The book store at the airport wasn't a book store, it was a little general store that had a shelf of books. So I went through security and sat listening to my ipod and reading RSS feeds on my loaner Blackberry while watching planes come and go. Uneventful flight into Atlanta, for a scheduled 2 hour layover. Get in and find a bookstore, picked up "Shadow of the Giant" another of the Ender's series by Orson Scott Card, and then found that my flight instead of being at the next gate, was in the next concourse. Hopped the train for the other concourse and found some food. Plane ended up getting delayed an hour, the plane was there, but the crew wasn't. Got back to Madison just after 11pm, home and then shortly, bed.
Yesterday I woke up and it was about 55 when I went outside, this morning, 19.
Tonight I have to get things ready for an art show for
pkstudios in DeForest. Might leave work early and run some errands too. I'm also going to check on the manifold and goop it up some more after getting more epoxy.
Tomorrow is the show, and maybe Sunday I might fill the tub again, and if it still leakes, or leaks somewhere else, I'll try to full drain and remove parts and let it sit until spring.
