It’s been quite a while so I’ll see what I can remember.

Overall, I’d say that this semester I’ve been playing SOOO much. At Nutley I got to play in Hot Mikado. It’s a pretty cool musical and I got paid really well to play it. Next, I got to play at Carnegie Hall.

Ok, this actually deserves its own paragraph or two. It was ridiculous. I got there with my kit and put it in front of the loading doors. Within 1 minute, there were 4 guys from the Union loading it on a cart and moving it to the stage for me. I specifically requested that they don’t set it up but they gave me the courtesy of taking everything out of the cases and putting roughly where they should be. Such service! I, being the idiot I am, forgot my drum stool. No problem, those guys had a stool for me within 30 seconds of my realization. I got to stand in the hall, by myself. I looked up, lost my breath, and clapped. I swear, its still reverberating as we speak. The house was packed (I’ve been told sold-out, but I can’t confirm) and Ms. Amanda Booth was in the audience.

The coolest part was the history. Getting to roam alone backstage through the rooms and in the dressing rooms was phenomenal. I went into the Maestro’s room. Wow, there were autographed photos from the world’s most famous conductors; Toscanini, Bernstein, Ormandy, Stokowski, etc.etc. Ridiculous.

Man, here’s also a brief list of who’s been on that stage: The Beatles, Billie Holiday, Theodore Roosevelt, countless classical musicians that I’m sure none of you have heard, Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck, Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky, Rachmoninoff, Duke Ellington, Gustav Mahler, John Phillips Sousa, Woodrow Wilson, Fats Waller, Pavarotti, Tchaikovsky, Rubinstein, Horowitz, Van Cliburn, Placido Domingo, Winston Churchill, Booker T. Washington, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Dizzie Gillespie, Edgard Varese, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Dylan, the Stones, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, The Doors, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Yo-Yo Ma, Pierre Boulez, and Jeff Brown.

Also, I put on a recital with another percussionist, Theo. It went pretty well. It was well attended and we had an awesome build your own sundaes reception afterwards. Thanks again to Amanda, Kelsey, and Phoebe for making the trek from Brooklyn just to see little ol' me.

Last night, I just did a concert of Orff’s Carmina Burana. It went really well and the crowd gave it a stand ovation, for like 15 minutes, haha. Now, I’m playing it in two different productions at school. I’m all Orff-ed out.

Bamboozle in 7 days, I’m going to try and make the best of it.

I’ll be home soon (soon as in, 2 weeks.) Best believe I’ll be ready to party!
