Temp to Perm

Well, after 4 weeks of unemployment I am again back to work.  Kinda.  Well, I am working and all, but I'm working for a temp agency.  The people at the agency are nice enough and all, but it can be a bit of a hassle to send in my time sheet, and to get my check.  For those of you that have worked temp you know what I mean.  For those that don't I will explain.

First off you have to keep track of your hours and lunches and stuff.  You don't punch a time clock, or sign into a computer.  You hand write it on a little slip that has like 4 carbon copies under it.  The place you're working for gets one.  You get one.  And the temp agency gets one or two.  So you fill it out all week, and then have the boss at the place you’re temping sign it.  Then you have to get it to the temp agency.  Luckily the one I work for allows me to fax in mine, and just bring the hard copy with me when I pick up my check.  But then you have to picking up your check.  You have to do that physically (or at least I do because they don't have direct deposit).  So you have to go to the agency office and get your check.  Not too bad for me either.  Just a bit of a walk, and I have to try and remember exactly where the building is and what floor the agency is on.  But I don't have to do that until Wednesday.

But that's really not what I wanted I right my blog about.  I wanted to right about where I'm working.  I'm working at a place (I won't mention where) that does real estate law.  You know, foreclosures and stuff like that.  Its a really nice place.  Big though, and I've gotten lost going back to my desk from the bathroom several times.  But I like the work, the people are nice, and they really seem to like me.  I basically have 2 bosses, who have told me all this week on a daily basis that they like my work, and how quickly I've picked up what needs to be done.  One of my bosses even said that she's having trouble keeping up with me.  She said she didn't mind taking work home with her this weekend because it meant the department is getting back on track.  So for the first time in a long time I'm well liked at a job.
Now onto the "temp to perm" thing…  Both of my temp bosses, and the temp agency boss have told me that this could go from a temporary to a permanent position.  That's very cool to me.  Not only because I'd have a job again, but because I'd have a job in accounting (I'm doing some major accounting stuff at this place).  Seeing that I'm going back to school in the fall, and working towards taking the CPA exam, this seems like the perfect place for me to work for a few years.  Plus, as you’ve read already, I really don’t like the temp thing.  Now if everyone is right, and this is a temp to perm position, then I'm hoping once October comes around, and this job is over, that they'll ask to keep me around for good.  It will cover my employment, hopefully it will pay a lot more, and it will cover a requirement for when I take the CPA exam (I need like 100hours of accounting work to take the exam).  The only thing I have left now is taking care of my immunizations for school (but I'll get into that in another blog sometime later).  So cross your fingers, and let's hope this all works out.
