It's been a while, so I think I'm going to update!
I had such a fun day today! I got up at 7 and drove to the New Haven train station, parked my car, jumped on a train to NYC and met up with Lauren Clark in the city! This trip was planned about 2 nights ago totally spontaneously just because Lauren's awesome, I'm awesome, and most of all, NYC is freakin awesome! So I got there about 11ish and met Lauren in Penn station and so we're like, what do you wanna do? I dunno, what do you wanna do? I dunno, what do you wanna do? After a couple minutes of this, we decided to go to TKTS and get tickets to a Broadway show! So, we're deciding what to see, and we narrowed it down between Avenue Q and The Producers and decided to see The Producers. I saw it in the movie theater when it came out as a movie, but the broadway show was sooo much more R rated! I mean, no nudity or anything, but they said shit and fuck in the first 5 minutes of the show! And there were little kids sitting in front of us too! Anyway, that show was hilariously entertaining and awesome.
Really quick funny story - We had went to McDonald's before the show and as we were about to leave, this family sitting across the way from us was about to leave too. The younger kid went to the bathroom and came back and starts talking to his dad. He says, "Someone's smoking in the bathroom! There was a guy in the stall coughing and stuff too! It was weird though, it didn't smell like cigarette smoke, it was a funny smelling smoke!" The kid's older sister suggested that it was probably pot smoke. The father, not wanting to taint his naive and fragile son's mind made the suggestion that it was probably flavored cigarettes. The smell eventually eminated out of the bathroom cus people were coming in and out and then the mother is like, "Yea, that's pot smoke." I just thought that it was funny that I got to witness a kid smelling pot smoke for the first time!
So, after the show we decide to walk around a little more. We kept walking south, and I came up with the idea of visiting Ground Zero. I had never ever been, even when the towers were there, and I wanted to see what it was like. I must say, it was amazing. Not amazing in an exciting, awesome way, but amazing in a moving, powerful kind of way. I felt this feeling that I never felt before and it was so powerful and the only way I could describe it was almost a heavy, sicklike nauseous feeling in the bottom of my stomach. We saw what they were planning on building in it's place - The Freedom Tower. Uggh. I think it's stupid. Sorry if I sound negative on this, but it's a dumb idea. Apparently it's going to be like apartment buildings and stuff. I think they should make a park or a memoral with grass and trees and monuments and a wall with names on it. Let's say I lost someone close and dear to me due to 9/11. I would want a place to go and pay homage to the loss of them due to something so tragic. A fitting place for a memorial for such homage paying would be right at the spot of the WTC. But no. There's gonna be an apartment building or something too. That's dumb. I still think it shoudl be a park/memorial. Also, the name is kind of stupid. I don't know if it's just me, but the overuse of the term "freedom" has made me sick. I'd blame that on good old GWB. The only way that he can get the public on his side is to talk about their freedom. Uggh. Don't hate me for saying this, but to a certain extent, America sucks. But anyway, it was quite an experience to be there today.
After that, we walked the rest of the way to the shore and just looked out at the water and at the Statue of Liberty. That was a very nice and calming way to end the day. I checked my clock and it's 7:20! I had an 8:00 train to catch! The train was leaving from Penn Station and we were not anywhere near Penn! Holy crap, we caught the subway up to 34th street and booked our ass over to Penn and luckily, I caught my train. I sat down and literally 2 minutes later the train started moving. I got really lucky. And now I'm here, and tired and sleepy.
Goodnight!
