So there's this stupid kid that I work with.
I hate him. Pretty much everything about him. His name is Neftali. Nefty for short. I have no clue what the fuck that means or what the hell his parents were thinking. Anyway, he's freaking annoying as all hell. I dealt with him when we both used to work on register, and then I moved to DI thinking that I could get away from him. Turns out he heard there were a whole bunch of positions open in DI, so he moved over there too. Anyway, I was helping a customer out with some cameras and he was looking for the Canon SD700, which we don't sell, cus they just came out with it. He mainly wanted a camera with image stabilization technology which is pretty new and he mentioned that the Canon had it and he knew of a Sony that had it as well, but of course, we didn't carry it. Nefty was walking by and heard my customer mention the Sony with image stabilization and says, "Well pretty much all the Sonys have image stabilization. Blah, blah, blah, bullshit." So, not only was I mad at him for interrupting me during a sale, he's telling my customer completely wrong information. Just pulling shit out of his ass like he knows everything. I mean, it's one thing to say that Nikon is a better brand than Canon, or vice versa, cus to a certain extent, that's subjective. But it's complete bullshit to make shit up about "pretty much all the Sonys". The customer seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about with cameras and right after Nefty walked away, he says, "That guy has no clue what he's talking about, does he?" And I chuckled and said, "No."
I'll admit, I'm not genius when it comes to cameras, but if a customer asks me a question that I don't know the answer to, I'll a) ask another associate that knows, or b) tell the customer flat out that I don't know and that I'm still new to the department.
Uggh. He pisses me off. The worst thing about him is the fact that he's so far up the managers asses that it's like he's their undigested shit. I don't even know if that makes sense, but you get the picture. He's so eager to do things, which is great, but he does them half assed and doesn't provide people with the right information. Anyway, we got bored and didn't wanna deal with him today so we decided to page him to random places in the store that didn't make any sense at all. For example, "Nefty to the front for a cart run, Nefty to the front for a cart run." We were contemplating sending him to the bathroom for "cleanup". Stupid shit like that. It was pretty fun.
Then him, Jen and I were standing around and this older woman approaches us and was looking for a portable handheld gaming system for a young Guatemalan boy that is in the states for a surgery and he met someone else who had one, and she wanted to buy one for the child. In the conversation the lady had mentioned that she didn't know the name of it, but would like us to help her look for one. So Nefty says, "Is it the PSP? Or the Nintendo DS?" Hey, retard, she definitely said she didn't know the name of it. Anyway, I just wanted to get him out of my hair cus he had been pissing me off the whole day, so I say to the lady, "Nefty here can show you where they are and help you out with that." And he says, "Uh, yea, I can..." Prime example at how he's too eager to help that he gets things done half assed. One of the most important things about helping a customer out is to LISTEN. If you don't listen to what they want, how can you accurately help the customer to get what they want? Yes, in this case the lady didn't know what she wanted, but don't go rattling off gaming systems that are common knowledge to the employees in the store but an old woman is going to have no clue what the hell you're talking about. One of the most important things about helping a customer, is asking them questions. That way you find out if they know anything about the product. I had a customer today ask me what the difference between two cameras was and the main difference was that one of them was a 5 megapixel camera and the other was a 6 megapixel camera. I told him this and he says, "I have no clue what you just said." By this statement I was able to tell that he had never had a digital camera before and had almost no information on digital cameras. I then treated the sale in a completely different manner, and whenever I came across a term or a feature that seemed like it would be over his head, I explained it to him. He ended up buying a nice camera, and I had a decent sale off of the guy.
That's a basic example, but still, if you realize a customer knows what they're talking about, you're going to speak to them differently than a customer who knows nothing.
Anyway, sorry this has been a rant about stupid Best Buy employees, but that's all I did today, was work, so it was stuck in my head.
I LIKE MY NEW JOB! It's so fun, cus every customer is different and each one has different needs and the job doesn't get boring. When I was on register, everything was the same. I was supposed to ask if they had a Reward Zone card, or if they were using their Best Buy credit card, offer the extended service plan if applicable, if they were paying with credit/debit I would have to offer them a magazine, which is stupid and then basically wish them a great day. I would have to do this all day everyday. How monotonous! In DI, I can actually talk to customers, and most of all I don't have to stare at a clock all day! On register, I would look at the clock and it would be 2:00. About 20 mins later, it's 2:05. This would go on all day.
Anyway, I've been blabbing too much about Best Buy so I think I'm going to stop talking.
Oh yea, I've been updating a lot because I'm lonely and there's nobody to talk to except my Livejournal.
OHHH!!!!! HOW COULD I FORGET?!?!?!
TORI CALLED ME TODAY!!! Oh man, it was nice to hear her voice again after not talking to her for a couple days. She says she's having a lot of fun in Europe and apparently they're singing at a really famous church in Vienna. They're really busy which is why she hasn't called me in a while, but I can't wait for Tori to get back! Yay!
