10 Resolutions for 2010

Dec 28, 2009 20:08

First, let's see how I did on the Nine for '09...

1. Read more books and write (and finish) more things.
Read more books: ...That'd be a no.  Write and finish more things: Definite yes. Six scripts down, babeh!

2. Procrastinate less.
Definite miss.

3. Act my age a bit more.
Succeeded on some levels, failed on others.

4. Be a good friend.
I'd like to think I was...

5. Talk to someone in the Hollywood business.
Accomplished! Internship starts next spring!

6. Save more money.
Another definite miss.

7. Chill out.
Kind of, but not really.

8. Try more new things.
Sort of...? I did go to a gay club last night; that was a first. (More on that later, possibly.)

9. Don't stop believing.
Eh.

I've discovered, when setting goals for myself, that the key is specificity. I'm a lot more likely to accomplish something if I dictate when, why and how I will accomplish it.  So with that in mind, here are my TOP TEN RESOLUTIONS FOR 2010:

1. Go to McDonald's NO MORE THAN TWICE A MONTH.
2. Go to the gym at least twice a week.
3. Increase my current financial savings threefold.
4. Complete the first season of that Web Series in full (writing, shooting, post-production, etc).
5. Have the first three seasons of said Web Series written by the end of the year.
6. Read at least five new books. (Re-reading does not count.)
7. Start any long-term essay/project/assignment/etc. at least three nights before it is due.
8. Be more mature and understanding around friends (and family).
9. Pursue an understanding of some kind of faith through conversations, research and self-analysis.
10. Go to more gay clubs.

That last resolution might not seem legitimate, but if you had been there last night you'd know it definitely is.

2009 was an interesting year for me.  I helped shoot a film that made the Christian Bale freakout its official motto ("We're fuckin' done professionally") on set. I met up with tons of friends back home. I took up Twitter.  I played a victim of a hate crime onstage. I rehearsed for another play at the same time.  I went to Disneyland ... a lot. I became a college junior.  I got obsessed with Joss Whedon and Glee.  I interned at a Shakespeare Festival.  I wrote up a ton of scripts for a web series.  I began shooting that web series.  I became completely apathetic toward my fall grades.  I performed in another Shakespeare play.  I went to a gay club (we've been over this...).  I made friends - some best friends.  And, most importantly... 2009 was the year I came out to my parents.

It was just after Thanksgiving dinner, and I came back to the table and asked them if we could talk about something.  I don't remember what I said exactly (adrenaline rush and all that), but it was something to the effect of "I don't ... like ... girls."  Both of them just stared at me for a minute... then shrugged and said, "Okay."

My parents are awesome.

I also told most of my friends who didn't already know (or hadn't guessed), and was relieved to find that none of them - not even my roommates - made a big deal out of it.  So yeah, I guess 2009 was kind of amazing in a lot of ways.

So... here's to 2010 being just as amazing!

2010, new year, life lessons, resolutions, flamboyance, 2009
