Yay, I Posted!

Figured it was high time to update this thing.  What it'll be about, however, remains to be seen, as I have no plans for this post.  I'm just gonna run with it and see what I come up with...

So last night there were two new Family Guy episodes (and a live show special), which was sweet. Unfortunately, I was at rehearsal for our fall production of "Pericles" and missed them, which was not so sweet.  But due to the magic of the Internet I got to watch them anyway.  And can I just say that the writers are turning Brian into a major douche? He's been my favorite character for so long but these last couple of seasons he's been painted as a womanizing jerk who can't get past his own ego to reach out to someone else.  It'd probably help if they stopped having episodes about his dating life, because he's fine otherwise.  Especially when he's paired with Stewie.  That might have come out wrong.

Also, Miley Cyrus was featured prominently in the other episode and they totally destroyed her.  In the literal and figurative sense.  The only problem was that the girl they got to voice her didn't sound a thing like her and it was really distracting.  I think it would have been cooler if they got her to do her own voice, although after the joke in the beginning ("Wait, so Miley's my daughter but Hannah isn't? ... Great. Put your wig on"), I can see why she didn't.

In Real Life News, the aforementioned production of Pericles (which is one of Shakespeare's less-performed plays) opens this Thursday, which means the cast and crew are majorly into the swing of tech week.  I think it's the only time I've actually looked forward to a tech week, just 'cause everyone's so much fun to hang out with.  This production is also a lot more efficient than others I've been in, so that's nice as well.  The parts are fun too - I get to play a lord, a knight, a brothel customer (scandalous!) and my favorite, a pirate.  What was amusing last night was that the person we "kidnap", Kelly, this sweet and peppy blonde girl, was teaching us intimidating pirates how to, you know, be intimidating pirates.  She was all "Okay, now grab me and wrestle me to my feet, good, now hold the sword to my throat and push me off.  No, okay, try it again but be meaner this time.  Yeah, there you go."  I just found it hilarious that the damsel in distress was teaching the pirates how to be badass.  Only in theater, I tell you.

In terms of actual academics, this semester is ... well, honestly, the hardest part is actually caring.  It's been this way ever since school started.  See, the problem is that I'm not taking any courses in my major (or minor) this term; it's all core-requirement classes.  And it's stuff that doesn't matter to me in the slightest.  I have the worst grade I've ever had in my entire academic career (a D+) in Geology and I just ... don't ... care. It probably should matter to me, especially since I might lose my academic scholarship if my grade is too bad, but the odds of that are relatively low since I have A's in all my other classes.  Also, if my parents find out they will lecture me until my ears bleed, but strangely enough that doesn't work as motivation either.  Weird, right?

As far as stuff that *does* matter to me goes, I actually have really good news on that front.  We recently held a table read of the first episode of the web series (Kelly, the girl I mentioned earlier, is playing Sarah) and it went really well.  Like, well enough that I was honestly surprised, and thrilled.  Everybody's really looking forward to when we start shooting, which is awesome.  Unfortunately, what is not so awesome is that things keep coming up (although we should have more time after Pericles opens) so it's been hard to schedule an actual start time.  My goal is to have the first episode shot by Thanksgiving so that when we come back we can just jump right in and film, film, film.  It might have been a lofty goal, having twelve twenty-minute episodes per season (meaning 240 minutes of footage to be shot each school year), but I totally think we can make it work.  I'm already up to writing episode five and it's going well.  The only hard part has been keeping my Multimedia teacher from finding out all the details, because if he knows about them then he'll want to get involved, and if he gets involved production will slow to a crawl.  How do I know this?  It's been two years since I started coming here and we're still working on the film that I pitched freshman year.  That's how I know.  He's a great guy, honestly, but ... a little scatterbrained.  Okay, a lot.  Like I've said before, efficiency is a problem at this school.  Remember all the troubles with Res Life at the beginning of the school year?  (P.S. The bed is finally gone, after six weeks. They were actually going to try and charge us for them to remove it, but then my roommate got all intimidating so they just took it.)

Well, I think that's all for now.  Other than everybody needs to watch "Glee", "Dollhouse", and possibly "Flash Forward", I haven't decided yet.  But given how I reiterate something like that every time I post, that's not really news.
