By now, almost everybody knows that Boston's city government made total idiots of themselves by whipping the city into a panic over a handful of LED flashers in the shape of a "Space Invaders" alien flipping them the bird, hung up here and there by a third-shelf TV show.

You look at the "bomb hoax" and find a reasonable explanation. Over at Making Light they've decided it's proof of "Creeping Fascism In America."

I think a lot of Americans need to take a deep, cleansing breath.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is set in New Jersey. And, I wish I didn't have to clarify this: New Jersey is not a seedy NYC suburb.

Oh, well. I saw three episodes. I'm certainly not an expert. And I thought it was the NYC skyline in the distance. On the other hand--egad, the main characters are pieces of a Wendy's Old Fashioned Combo, surely the surreality of it all makes its location in the universe something of a moot point.

The sky is falling, didn't you get the memo?

- global warming (with or without data)
- overpopulation (though Europe is dying)
- world famine (though production continues to increase)
- HIV pandemic (though vectors continue to be homosexual and drug behaviors)

The more times they are wrong, the more often they leap to the latest hysterical fad.

Meanwhile, they keep their heads firmly in the sand with respect to border control issues.
