There's an insight that derives from Asimov that seems relevant here: The Greek word for "thought" is skepsis, which is the root of our words "skeptic" and "skeptical." This is because the very act of doubt (being skeptical) implies thought. Of course, truly "blind" faith denies skepticism, and thus denies thought.
