  • Pete Albrecht alerted me to Collecta, an interesting twist on a general Web search engine, in that it gathers news being posted Right Now, and displays it item by item on the screen in realtime While You Wait. Actually, the 128 GB drive brings up another interesting possibility. Apple's current line of hard-drive-based iPods is $250 for 120 GB. While the 128 GB flash drive is currently $547, I'd expect the price to be low enough in three years or so that flash-based iPods should be comparable to the current model with the most storage.

Once we were large enough, we hired a tough, experienced HR manager out of the low-end hotels field. What we had to call an "underwear" policy was in practical terms an injunction against going braless, and was triggered by one of our (many) eccentric staffers who seemed to like the attention. Margaret was wonderful in the role, as she could take women aside and tell them to cut the crap without being accused of gender bias. The guys respected her and never gave her any trouble. She had broken up fights between men in her previous position and was very good at building her "legend" within the company. After a few months, nobody crossed her.
