Jeff,

I'm so jealous! A dozen launches, what a morning.

Pete,
Magnificent build. The care and hard work show.

Re: "the...whiff of black powder". Model rockets aren't the only (other) cool thing with that perfume, recent experience reminds me that coal-fired steam engines do to.

Thank you. It's good to read this: Model rocketry was a hobby I fell away from, never “gave up.” Someone scanned the 1974 Estes catalog on-line; remember the 'Mars Lander'?

Also, from 1970:

As a youngster I was never bitten by that particular bug hard enough to do more than admire the catalog pictures and wish.

The 'Mars Lander' was a feature of Estes' catalogs throughout that period and high on my list of 'if and when.'

Since the post focuses on model rocketry in the Springs, building and launching rockets, I would be remiss in my civic pride if I didn't include a pointer to local manufacturer Apogee Rockets' top-of-the-line flyable Saturn V.

This is at the top of my list of 'when I win the (big) lottery' toys!

By the way, on the page facing the Mars Lander in the '74 catalog is a great kit I'd forgotten about. The two-stage HOTL "Orbital Transport" that was an even bigger personal favorite than the 'Mars Lander'.
