First grades

So the polls are in and it seems like I'm gonna do OK in my Intro to Fiction class. On our first writing assignment, which was graded and given back to me today, I scored an A-. Huzzah!/w00t! In this assignment we had to write two pages in which in one scene the character is performing a habit. The professor said that it was OK to make it neurotic ( Read more... )

5-step method... actually, it's more like 4 steps. ekuliak September 7 2005, 01:51:56 UTC
That was a good story.

As for speakers...

Most of this you may have already tried but here's what I'd do:

1) Check cords. Perhaps it's not connected all the way in. (that's always been the case for me when only one speaker emits sound)

2) Check media programs like winamp or videolan or media player (etc). This is probably not the case, but some of these programs allow you to transfer sound from one speaker or the other or set it evenly to both (should be default). This can usually be found in equalizer settings. I'm not sure if that is a system-wide change, but I know changes in volume level will tend to affect speaker volume levels even when the program is not running. As I said this is probably not the case (I've never experienced that to be the problem, anyways)

3) Check sound drivers. Go to device manager and see if any of the drivers have problems (usually an exclamation point next to it, or a red X). This also probably isn't the case. If your drivers are fucking up, you'll probably have no sound at all.

4) Try some headphones (plugged into where the speakers are plugged into on the PC). There's a chance that the speakers themselves are the problem. If headphones work, then you can assume that it's the speakers. Either use the headphones, or buy new speakers if that is the case. If your roommate has a set of PC speakers, you can ask to try his also.

5)a) Dust for fingerprints. Get decent sized knife. Stab vandalizer.
5)b) Blame roommate.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head (I'm supposed to be doing something right now). If I think of anything else later I'll post it. Otherwise, you can probably expect better help from Nick if my suggestions didn't fix it.
