Actually, no: that wasn't the promised post about my semester, and no, watching all six star wars movies (plus - did I mention the clone wars cartoon?!) in a row is not all that film school is about.

With that said, this semester is going to be a lighter load on me than last semester. Not that it will be easy, but I will probably have some nights and weekends to myself, which will be a really great recharge for the summer semester, which will be really intense and exhausting even by film school standards.

This semester, I will be working on two thesis shows. As I mentioned in a previous post, the jobs I ended up requesting and, ultimately, receiving, were not what I anticipated asking for: on one show, I'll be acting as Script Supervisor, a job which I advised the internet community to keep me away from in a previous post; on the other, I'll be acting as the Unit Production Manager (or UPM), which is a job that most people consider to be a last resort or something to be avoided.

In the end, it became less about getting one particular job over another - I've already done all of the BTL positions I was eligible for at least once, and I'll be doing almost all of them again this summer, anyway - and more about the specific people I wanted to work with.

So, for now, I'm fully in UPM town for the next 5 weeks of preproduction. Eric, the producer, and I, along with our stupendous pre-pro team, are already ripping shit up. There's a lot to do, but we are having fun, and it's great.
