Let's head back to Tennessee, Jed

So I'm a Tennessean now. I changed my address at the post office and applied for my library card. That makes it official.

I've got me a lovely apartment in a general brick multiplex in urban East Nashville. It looks like crap from the outside but is actually quite nice on the inside, with vaulted ceilings and fans in the living room and kitchen, so I'll have places to hang my mobile and Zoo, my two big pieces of art. I'm a little ways across town from Terri, but not too far. Amazingly, I ended up within walking distance of, check this out, an organic food market - basically a Whole Foods in miniature, a coffee shop, three bars, four or five restaurants, two hair boutiques, a hardware store, a post office, and a library branch. I had more or less resigned myself to having to rejoin the car world given that I wasn't moving to DC proper or New York, but I lucked into what appears to be the only walker-friendly neighborhood in Nashville. Looks like it was fairly ghettolicious maybe six or eight years back but has gotten a little gentrified since. In fact, it even has its own web site, check out Historic Edgefield.

I've contemplated my finances and assuming the house sale goes through without hitches, I should have four months of living expenses in the bank without doing any work whatsoever. So at the moment, I'm taking my time unpacking my shite, watching lots of live World Cup soccer, and hanging out with Terri and my other Nashville friends. I'm calmer and happier than I can ever remember being, nearing the end of what in retrospect seems to have been my two-year project in eliminating every single source of stress in my life. I'm sure bumps and snags are sure to ensue, especially as I continue to fritter away my savings being indolent, but I think I've earned at least a few weeks of relaxation.
