NO spoilers at all. I'm abstract like that :D
I have a confession to make: Supernatural isn't really my type of show.
I do love it and it is the only show I've consistently watched in years but it is not my type.
I like shows and movies where there is a lot of dialogue, few characters, few or no extras, little action and preferably no special effects at all. My favorite is 2 or 3 people in one or two sets just talking, arguing, whatever.
Usually I say I basically like filmed theatre. So yes this episode was a treat. Now if we could apply this formula to Sam and Dean a little more, I'll be happy.
About Jensen's work... I don't know much about directing but I do know that when directing sucks I definitely notice (a couple of SPN episodes come to mind...) so I think he did pretty well.
But I also know that an actor's performance, independently from how good the actor is to start with, is very much improved by:
- good writing of the scene/character
- good quality of the other actors sharing the scene
- good quality of the director
Considering how everyone did in this ep, and considering the writers and the actors basically remained the same, I'd say Jensen was great.
In short, I loved it (there was a Scottish castle, too :D)
(They still have to fix Sammy and do it right. I'm pleased but Sera & Co are still not off the hook. Nope.)
review,
scotland is my heart's home,
i *heart* show,
