San Francisco Marathon

I just got back from San Francisco. I ran the San Francisco Marathon on July 30th, 2006. It was quite an experience, and I am so glad I participated in it. I'll just throw in some stats regarding the SF marathon. Runners from more than 24 countries participated, more than 20,000 runners, and only 1% of the 6.5 billion people in the world take part in a marathon.

The Pre-race event, which was held a day before the marathon was really great. People were there to pick up their packets, which includes the bib number, t-shirts, and all sorts of goodies such as electrolyte gels, power bars, water bottles, and any last minute running shorts, shirts, and shoes runners would like to buy.

San Francisco itself is a pretty damn nice city. The weather was so cool, which was a nice break from the scorching 100 degree Fahrenheit in the city I live in. And they were so many hot girls in San Francisco. If I had to choose between San Francisco and Las Vegas, I'd go for San Francisco. In fact, I don't mind moving to San Francisco. I know, I know, I already mentioned in my previous blog that Las Vegas is also fun. But man, Las Vegas is so superficial and fake. I just like it real. The day before the marathon, I walked around SF. I went to Union Square, and found myself gradually in China Town. There were so many Chinese in China Town. That was a useless sentence huh? Of course there's going to be lots of Chinese, It's China Town!

The Bay Area itself alone is a nice place to live in, I think. Well, it sures beats living in the city I live in currently. But of course, there's always a trade-off. Living in the Bay Area near San Francisco is going to be more expensive since the cost-of-living is higher compared to where I live now. But the good thing is that there's more to do there, and more good looking girls.

I saw a lot of Asian girls over 18 with Asian boys over 18, and I'm like, how the hell did that Asian boy get a hot asian girl like that.

The next day, I woke up early, did some light stretching, and went to Embarcadero Avenue, just underneath the Bay Bridige for my starting line. The marathon is 26.2 miles. The highlight for the event was running through Fisherman's wharf, the Golden Gate Bridge, and back, going along the uphill climb towards the back of San Francisco and into Golden Gate Park. Golden Gate Park is a huge park, and it's so beautiful and green. It is the equivalent of Central Park back in New York, but with more lakes, and more hilly, and sloping terrain which is great for riding a bike or running. At mile 20 with so many uphill and downhill run, my feet started to hurt. I had to practically walk the last 6 miles. The time limit was 6 hours. If we didnt' finish by 6 hours, we wouldn't get the medal. But I managed to finish in 5 hour 32 minutes, I believe. I got my medal.

I plan to do the San Francisco marathon again next year, I also want to do the San Diego marathon as well. I can't wait to go back and run. Running started out as something so I can get in shape, but it has turned into something that is part of me and something that I enjoy doing.
