There is a certain way someone screams when the are bleeding in their skull. It's a horrible scream. Someone else who stopped said "at least he's not bleeding" I didn't bother explaining that the absence of scrapes and bruises only meant that all the energy was absorbed inside his head.
We got him in a car and off to the hospital. I loaded his and his friends bike into my truck. His friend rode with me. We went to drop the bikes off at the friends house but it took a while. The friend kept repeating "I told him to wear a helmet". I called injured kids mother and told her what was going on and waited while the friend who was with me tried to remember where his own house was. It was obvious that all he could think about was the screaming.
Finally we found his house, dropped of the bikes and headed to the hospital. On the way I found out they were riding down a big hill as fast as they could. It was right at the bottom of the hill that the bike went over. The bike when up and over the front tire and slammed the kids forehead into the road.
I dropped the friend off and came home. On the way I saw 5 other kids under 16 years old riding without helmets.
