saw bad religion the other night. when they came out they started playing this opening riff. I was like "i know this...what song is this?" then I realized it was the opening to 'fuck armageddon...this is hell' from like...1983 i think?. kind of a random opening, playing a song that's like...24 years old.
greg graffin is extremely funny and sort of disorganized on stage, i.e. making jokes about columbus (i.e. "so how was your COLUMBUS day, columbus? *bad dum ching* isn't it amazing that the whole country - and parts of europe - celebrate the achievements of this very city?"), making fun of himself for not remembering band history ("have we played here before? let's consult the band historian. i can't remember but it's entirely possible that i'm just senile. has anyone here seen us play in this city before?"), making fun of the state capitol ("I noticed there's no dome on the state capitol...what's the story there - did they run out of money? was it destroyed in some ancient battle? who here knows!? anyone up here in the front know the story?"), making fun of other bands ("so what bands have you guys seen recently other than us? (listens to people up front) fallout boy....rianna...oh those are all great acts. unfortunately we don't know any of their songs or we'd play them. what's that? this guy said he just saw the ramones! the ramone maybe..." )
all in all, pretty good show. it's always nice when the singer actually interacts with the crowd.
