It's weird how easily we get hurt sometimes. It's amazing how much work we go through to get close to one another. Then it only takes a tiny little thing to destroy all of that work. Sometimes that thing is intentional, sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's thought out, sometimes it's spur of the moment. Sometimes the person is aware of what's happening, and sometimes they're not. And then, once that little thing happens, the hurt stays longer than we'd like to admit. We pretend to be okay, when we clearly aren't. We pretend that things have gone back to normal, even though they may never actually do so. Even if we want things to go back to how they were, we're too cautious to let them. This is the case with all relationships, may they be romantic ones or just friendships. We like to pretend that we will always have somebody there for us, but that's really not true. Eventually, everyone will leave, whether by choice or not, and we will each find ourselves alone when this time comes.
