A thought

A thought occurred to me when reading about someone bitching about the nation becoming socialist:

Would you consider the way health care worked pre-2010 socialist or capitalist?

The business model is very socialist - everyone contributes to a pool so that if something happens to them, they receive benefits. Additionally, several of the major insurance providers are actually non-profit companies, which means in theory there are no dividends or profits to be chasing after.

Now, there are definitely capitalist portions - the more you contribute, the better care you get (in theory). And, if for some reason you are costing the insurance company money, they try to drop you.
