knight_tracer asked for nail polish recommendations and specified that she likes dramatic colors, and I thought some of y'all might be interested as well, given how much of fandom seems to be into nail polish. So here are my favorite dramatic polishes, along with the most true-to-life swatches Google Images could find me. All of these have, at least once, caused people to say "WOW!" and grab my hand to haul it closer for a better look.
A England Avalon
This purple is the purple I was hoping for every time I've ever bought purple nail polish. (I own a lot of purple nail polish.) It GLOWS. I adore it.
Zoya Holly
I discovered this at a nail polish party where I was doing Harry Potter house-themed nails and needed a Slytherin green. I then failed to note the name of the shade and wound up e-mailing basically every person who was at that party trying to figure out who'd brought it so I could track it down and buy it for myself.
OPI I'm Not Really A Waitress
It's hard to find a unique red nail polish, but this one really is special. I have a backup bottle for when I inevitably run out because I use it so much.
China Glaze Frostbite
This is the most glowing, eye-catching blue I've ever seen. Sometimes it distracts me while I'm driving.
Finger Paints Flecked
This is a flaky topcoat, pictured here over black (which is how I usually wear it, although it works with a lot of colors). It mostly shows up green, but the blue comes out strong at extreme angles.
Super Black Switch
LOVE this holo. It looks dark grey in low light, but the holo comes out reasonably well in decent lighting indoors, and it's unphotographably spectacular in sunlight.
