Awesome Things and Awesome People

Jul 07, 2010 01:18

It's been a busy couple of weeks.  Unfortunately, none of the busy comes from being employed (okay, so the only unfortunate part of that is the lack of income), and circumstantially speaking, the good news is being a little drowned out by the bad.  But I guess that's the point, isn't it?  Our happiness, in one sense- our contentment, our satisfaction, our satiety- is dependent on our circumstances.  The more important stuff- joy- comes from knowing who we are, knowing why we are here, knowing that everything is working together to make everything beautiful in the end.  Basically: as crappy as the last month and a half have been for me, I really can't see myself worried about it a month and a half from now.  I'm starting on the biggest leg of my journey to become a doctor- and that's awesome.

It's also nice to remember that it's not all about me.  The last few days have seen several very wonderful things come to pass in the lives of my friends.  First of all, the wonderful orelle_peredhil got hired to her dream job, which is wonderful news and very difficult for a recent grad in this economy.  Three of my best friends, after months of preparations and a number of denominational shenanigans that prevented me from joining them, my friends Nicole, Lauren and Wes departed for a month-long mission trip to Thailand, and I was able to have a final dinner with them and their families before taking them to the airport.  Most importantly, my good friends Michael and Neva got married after five years of dating.  It was a beautiful wedding, and with most of our group of friends in the wedding party (and the rest at the ceremony/reception), it was an incredible time of hanging out, celebrating Mike and Neva and enjoying having each other around.  Honestly, hitting the dance floor that night, being myself, goofing around and laughing with people who love me made for what had to be one of the best five nights of the last five years of my life.

Basically... like I said, life is good.

Also: doing this meme thing that I stole from the aforementioned orelle_peredhil  (who, in turn, stole it from yamikonumber7 ).  Expect an increase in posting volume, with the concomitant decrease in substance...

SO apparently, I'm linking to one song a day for the next month, according to the little list outlined below.  Here goes:

Day 01: Your favorite song

Well, this is a no-brainer, as anyone who's known me longer than ten minutes will tell you:

Creed - New Music - More Music Videos

I don't know. I didn't really get into music until about middle school, and this song was huge right around then. Back then, and still today, it embodies everything I think a good song should have: driving guitars, building and releasing tension, soaring vocals, and a powerful finish.  It's been my favorite song for a very long time, and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.  Also, it was the song they used to close out their set when I saw them in Vegas on their Full Circle tour.  ZOMG so awesome.

And yes, this video embodies everything about why people hate Creed, but I am okay with that.  XD
