Picnic Day #2....

Apr 17, 2005 18:40

Still tired from all of the Picnic Day festivities yesterday - but I guess that doesn't make me special, when you consider the whole band. :p But Picnic Day was so much fun! I actually can't say that I liked this year or last year better - they both had their highlights. So here was the sitch...

EARLY MORNING
Awoke at 4:15 on Saturday morning, so that I could get in a shower before leaving (this was definitely a plus since I didn't have such a luxury last year, as a freshman). All the upperbandsmen met at the Death Star for the PD breakfast to await the freshmen coming in for their rally. It was awesome seeing them come in (and particularly hilarious that the altos took the elevator down to where we were). The freshmen sounded so good, and their songs were spectacular - they arranged two songs, and three teasers that included the themes from "Ninja Turtles" and "Captain Planet". (I'm thinking people will most likely push to get those in the folder!) More than anything, it made me proud to see my friends out there playing their hearts out - baritones Sean and Claudia, of course, but props also go to Caitlin M, Rachel, Julie, and the flutes. (Jacq, I'm so sorry that you didn't make it - I understand, having been late to my own freshmen rally. If DK hadn't dropped by to get stuff that morning - and woken me up in the process - I'd have missed it entirely.)

PRE-PARADE
Carissa and I had to head to the ARC to get our Mav'rick stuff, then drive back across campus to the MU where we had reserved a room to change and keep our uniforms. After getting BACK to the ARC, we changed into our full-dress uniforms and met in the ballroom to go over the show and get a pep talk from Don Kowall (an old drummer). We then formed our block outside and marched over to the Bio Sci building where we took our band picture and section pictures. (NOTE: It was when we were lining up by height that Michal Anna, myself and others made a shocking realization - being 5'9" meant that we are *69 inches tall*!! Our 5'9" group thought that was really cool, and we just might make a new Mav'rick shirt to celebrate our status!) :D

That's all I feel like writing for now. Soon to come: the parade and the Battle...!
