Friends - Part 1 - Todd Pulliam

Nov 16, 2007 03:23

I've decided to do a multiple entry "series" of livejournal posts about those in my life who mean the most to me. The people I adore and cherish and couldn't live without. And so, (even though I'm writing this at 3:30am Friday while at work .... yes it's that slow) I had to - of course - make this first entry dedicated to my bff: Todd Pulliam.

That little red head.

Known you for about oooooh I'd say at least a good 20 years. At least 18, I'm certain. But I can't remember how young we were when we first 'met.' Of course we were like toddlers or something and can't possibly remember when that was, but yeah. We are lucky. We've been best friends for years, well decades actually. Practically 2 decades. That's just ridiculous! We have of course had our difficult times, and lately its been unfortunate that we've been having to grow up and enjoy our later years with less time together to share the moments and experiences, but we still talk and we still do hang out. Of course we do. Because we know that its so important to maintain our friendship that's been so special over so many years.

You get me and we just 'click.' It's so hard to explain. Countless times we've shared each others thoughts about all sorts of things and we just act like brothers basically. I'm unable to recal any specific examples but I'm also gonna assume we've also had occassions where we've finished off each others' sentences. We have many similar interests: from video games and music, to Ninja Turtles and G.I.Joes. Thousands of days of our youth were spent out on Sycamore Creek running around and wasting mornings and weekends doing whatever we wanted to and having a blast. Action figures out in the front yard, tag or ball in the street, bikes up and down the block, Nerf wars in the living rooms of our houses, climbing that Pepper tree in your front yard, losing bouncy balls on the roof of my old garage.

You've gone away to Santa Barbara, graduated from a school you adore, and now you've officially entered the 'real world' and gotten a pretty sweet job. I miss you and just like I have for the past few years while we were both away at different colleges, it's been hard trying to enjoy these best years of our lives without my best friend always there with me. I've loved getting to see you again on the holidays and the special other occassions when you come back to the SCV.

We have had tons of great adventures and oooooh the stories we could tell! And what stories we've told already!! We have great friends who have shared those times with us as well, but I think you and I really were so lucky to stay so close. Throughout all sorts of things, we've still stayed best friends and have kept in touch through the thick and the thin. I've even been able to proudly introduce you to your first girlfriend. Carli means a lot to both of us and I know you sometimes say you regret how things happened and turned out but I know deep down you don't mean that. You were an excellent boyfriend and an amazing person for her to be with. We were all young and naive those few years ago, perhaps I shouldn't have been so pushy about you two, but perhaps it was for the best that I was, because of it, you two eventually met, although things happened the way they did for whatever reason or reasons... I know you miss having a girlfriend and that that's been a work in progress for you for years now, I've been working on that my whole life practically, but you need to never forget how great you are. You're an amazingly positive and optimistic person and you're very uplifting... I know you keep you head up about stuff like that, and that's exactly what you should be doing. I can't wait to meet the next lady in your life. You'll treat her perfectly cuz that's just the kind of guy you are. I know it.

What I'm trying to say is, I just had to remind both you and myself, of just how special you are to me. You're the best friend a guy could ever have and I can't wait to experience more good times together. Your wedding, mine, our kids meeting and playing and stuff. All sorts of crazy things. I am so thankful for you in my life.
-Steve

P.S. I dedicate that Green Day song to you :)
