I heard an interesting thing today. According to Dr. Driscoll, the week before thanksgiving is the most violent week around this campus. Apparantly, there are the most fights, the most arguments, the most outspoken kids in class, and the most ager directed at the administration this week. Hmm...couldn't be because the online registration that was supposed to make everyone's lives a little easier is so damn complicated it never goes right. I went to work this morning in the registrar's office, and I didn't even make it three steps in the door before there were fifteen students lined up and on the phone bitching about this and that. So, I try to start getting all the information from them so I can ask the bosses. Trouble is, the one Boss handles everything, and none of the students want to talk to her because she is so nasty, and the other Boss, when she tires to help, gets chewed out by the other Boss. So, on top of trying to help the students and control the phone, I am having to deal with a conflict between the Bosses.
If finally quiets down, so I run to get some coffee. Keep in mind, its 8:30 in the morning, and I am also a cranky and tired college student. So, I come back, and get yelled at by the Head Boss for leaving them with no one at the front (even though I was only gone for three minutes...). Anyway, it was kind of going well when in walks this girl with an expression on her face I can only describe as utter hatred, asking why she couldn't register for one of her classes. I didn't even get two words out before she started chewing me out, asking me why we ever went to the online system, and all about how our office is so unhelpful to the students she is going to write a letter to the dean. It was all I could do not to reach over the counter and strangle her. So, we put her in all her classes, and then she asked about a degree audit for a business major...suffice it to say that by the time she was gone everyone in the office was in a pissy mood. I have never been so glad to walk out of there.
There needs to be a law against getting in the face of a helpless student worker...cause if you push too hard the student worker won't hesitate to beat you over the head with a huge stick, and then get a chainsaw and cut you up into little pieces.....ok, maybe I am being too harsh, but damn that felt good. This day better turn out better than this morning.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! >:0
