So, this has been a fairly stressful two weeks. We replaced our hot water heater after waking up to a flooded carpet and being told - water underneath the heater...need to replace that thing (yes, that's a paraphrase). After a few days of
the_blonde_one working his tail off to shop-vac the water up and it not making much headway we called our insurance company and BOOM! They had a water clean up company called After Disaster out to our place at 9:00 last Wednesday night. Was awesome. The carpet was drew and mildew/mold free on Saturday. Last night we discovered the carpet was wet again. *cue groaning and stress headaches* B performed two different leak detection tests and both came up negative. No leaks for us it seems. This morning we discovered water in our currently traveling nextdoor neighbor's house, apparently coming from her water heater. We're waiting to find out what happens next but needless to say not too pleased with the state of things right now.
But since I was home this afternoon dealing with all this I did manage to get Jacob's journal written. I really have to work a bit harder at getting this thing posted earlier, just never seem to get the time to write it lately. Well, at least it's up a whole 24 hours before the game this time.
Entry 54
I was feeding Xiomara when I felt the first buzz of warning in the back of my mind. I closed my eyes and concentrated to see what was happening and my shoulders relaxed a little bit when I realized it was Cesar. He told me to ignore it whenever my danger sense went off for him so I pushed the concern away and continued taking care of my daughter. The sense of danger flared once more but I ignored it again. Whatever job Cesar was on would be over soon. Sure enough the warning faded pretty quickly, with just a little focus I looked in on him and found he was with his guys so I figured things were OK. A little bit later the phone rang and Carina was on the line. Helena and Storm were on as well so I had a feeling our vacation was over.
I put the call on speaker phone, but once Carina started talking I regretted that decision. Caleb, being a typical thirteen year old boy couldn't help but be amused at exactly where we'd be going. Cesar and Sam were in Coxen Hole off the coast of Hondouras. Cesar's danger was apparently a bit more concerning than I thought. When I found out Sam went to help because Cesar's guys were in trouble as well I felt a bit guilty for never branding them myself. It didn't take long for all of us to agree to head to the Bay Islands. I wasn't surprised when Caleb asked to come along, but I knew if Machete, Melvin, and the others were in trouble then my boy, no matter how skilled he was getting, wouldn't stand a chance.
See, somehow Cesar had been set up. We didn’t learn all the details until we reached Coxen Hole, but he’d been sent to assassinate a political figure and instead he ran into a Baka (VooDoo malevolent chaos spirit), some Tzitzimime (damn star demons), Ahuizotl (the little fish monkeys like I ran into when I went to help Elisa and Erika a while back), some mortal gunmen, and a few zombies for good measure. Oh and we can’t forget the black crystal that honed in on his divine ichor and called down a metor on his location. Not only did we get the full story once we arrived but we also found that T-Bone was in town and decided to join in the fun.
I’ve worked with T-Bone a little more than some of my band, and despite his talk of running away and not fighting, he’s a fairly stand up guy when it comes to a fight. He’s a likeable guy and considering the firepower we might be up against, I’m glad to have him along. Now, if he’d just let go of the fact I crashed into a mud puddle and got him a little mussed it’d be great.
Before we can do any real investigating the Crystal has to be disabled and none of us were able to get close to it. We talked it over and it looked like we were going to have to rely on our mortal allies a little more than we normally do. We all know Cesar’s guys are capable of taking on whatever the mortal world can throw at them and a few of the lesser titan spawn as well. James and Joanna, Storm’s right and left hand are untried in combat, though I’ve seen them train and I’m pretty sure they can be deadly. It’s been a while since Carina allowed her panther Kamarina to go into one of our fights, but there’s never be any doubt that she’s capable of taking care of herself and doing a bit of damage. It was Rune I was a little worried about. Yes, he’s a falcon - a bird of prey with talons that can be absolutely lethal, but he’s never fought for me. He hasn’t fought for anything other than the occasional game in the forest. Helena’s ghosts were pretty much invulnerable and would make great scouts.
In order to give them the best odds of survival Carina and I bolstered their health and gave them an added toughness. It wasn’t perfect but it was the best protection we could give. Once that was done we took a boat close to the island and had to sit tight while our followers took care of the crystal. I hate waiting. Luckily, Carina spent a lot of time looking through Kamarina’s eyes so she kept a running commentary going.
We knew when they met their first bit of opposition with some of the mortal gunmen and Ahuizotl. Immediately they showed they were worthy of the confidence we had in them. Rune has apparently decided Kamarina’s not a threat to him, according to Carina he chose to ride on Kamarina’s head rather than fly. Hope that doesn’t come back to bite him in the ass once of these days.
The second group included a couple of zombies. Machete made the assumption (correctly) that they were poisonous so the gun monkeys of the group (meaning all of Cesar’s guys really) took them out from a distance. Once they were down everyone could focus on the gunmen. Apparently the Tiztizmime took off once Cesar wasn’t around anymore.
The final group was defending the crystal and included this flaming skull - not exactly like Cesar’s crystal skull, this one was apparently sentient. Obviously taking care of the skull was a priority, but the gunmen and Ahuizotl were pretty dangerous too. They were taken down with precision and speed. Now it’s just a matter of disabling the Crystal and then we can move in. I’m hoping it won’t take long and soon we can congratulate our followers on a successful mission.
