Star Wars: The Clone Wars S4E1 "Water Wars"

Sep 18, 2011 13:50

This year i'm going to make a point to review each episode like i did the first season. That doesn't necessarily mean i'm going to get around to watching it the first night, but i hope of have my review up by the end of the weekend. ^^ Unlike the first season i'm changing up my reviewing format to reflect my book reviewing format. It should make it easier of my part then....

Star Wars "The Clone Wars"
S4E1 "Water Wars"

Synthsis from Starwars.com
The Republic must help the young heir to the throne of Mon Cala reclaim control of his world from an evil Separatist warlord who seeks to create a civil war between the native Mon Calamari and Quarren people. Watch the full episode here.

Review:
Ok, the first episode fell a little... Flat. Basically the King of the Mon Calamari experiences an literally knife in the back and his young son (i'm guessing around 15-16 years old) becomes King. And is immensely WAY over his head. The Quarren sees this as a convient excuse to attack and take over. This of course preceeds a rather useless "lets work it out" moment before hand where the only senator and Jedi in the galaxy are there. Seriously. Is Padme the only one with a working starship or willing to leave Courasant or their home world? Also is Anakin and Ahsoka the only Jedi in the galaxy. The planet in question is an OCEAN planent. Yet you send oxygen breathers there. At least the Jedi Counsil had the good thought to send Kit Fisto there. Sould have sent his old padawan Bant Eerin too. You known... the Mon Calamari from the Jedi Apprentice books.

Anyways the only person with any sense there is Captain Ackbar, but does anyone listen to him? Noooo. Instead they must follow "Tradition. I expected one of the calamari to start singing "Tradition" from Fiddler on the Roof" any moment.  Meanwhile the Quarren people decide they must attack and their little spartartist Great White Shark "Riff Tamson" agrees. He especially agrees with Count Douku on him ruling the planet afterwards. The "Quarren might have a point" Princess Lee-Char declares that the Quarren won't attack in a grand conference which is promptly slapped back in his face by the Quarren attacking.

The Mon Calamari almost gets sushied up except the Republic reinforcements decided to show up. This is especially good for Anakin since he just lost his air helmet and he forget to take some gillyweed. Ahsoka is luckily there to retrieve it. Long story short, shark man chews up some calamari and the battle basically ends in a draw. At least how i saw it. Then shark man comes back with some jellyfish from hell. This causes a retreat and for 2-3 minutes the screen is so dark i can't see no jedi nor fishy people. The episode ends with the Jedi and Mon Calamari hiding and Sharky feeling uppedy and on top.

Like i said at the beginning the episode feel a little flat. Maybe i was expecting too much. The second half of season three was brilliant and i was hoping for a follow up. Instead we get this. Though props to Lucas and Co for not having the episode wrap up nicely. I've been saying from the beginning that the episodes would be so much better if they just leave things hanging. Lets hope i don't get wacked in the face with that. I'm quite aware that the second half has already showed, but i havent' seen it yet. I'm planning to watch it a little later.  So we'll see then.

Best part(s) of the episode:

Kit fisto smiling up at the jelly fish from hell after blowing it up. I love this guy. I wish he was in more episodes.

Worst part(s) of the episode:

Sharky Dude. Riff Tamson is my worst nighmare personalified. I have an irrational fear of sharks and here is one that thinks and rationalizes things.  I shall never step in the ocean again.

WORST NIGHTMARE

The lighting in the episode was too dark at time. I understand they're trying to recreate the darkness of the oceans, but i felt like i was staring at a black hole at times. It made it hard to keep up with things some times.

Seriously other Jedi/Senators besides Anakin, Ahsoka, and Padme PLEASE!!!! I like them as characters, but i want to see some new people.

Final Episode Rating.

3/5 stars. Here's hoping the rest of the season gets better.

season 4, clone wars, review, star wars
