VS

Northanger Abby(1986)
Or as i liked to call it "the most fucked up Jane Austen adaption ever". Seriously, this movie took it's gothic theme and ran. All of the characters were weird or creepy or both. Catherine in this version was some kind of masochist. She's supposed to have an over active imagination, but the Catherine in this version needed some serious help. Imagined being tortured, Henry's father washing his hands in blood, his father trying to rape her... I could go on and go. Then there was Henry. Henry was a complete jackass in this version. He kept calling Catherine stupid the whole movie and then said he liked being around her because she was stupid. I was cheering at the end when she left because she got rid of him. Course he came back. Then there is the creeps of creepy; John Thorpe. I watched the whole movie calling him the creepy guy. This movie was so weird and screwed up that my sister refuses to try any other jane Austen adaptations after seeing it. I never want to see this particular version again after seeing it. So horrid *shudders*

Northanger Abby (2007)
This version was so! much better than the last. It was like the producers saw the last and said we're taking away every thing stupid and overly creepy out of it. The characters were likable, well most, this time around. Cathrine seemed less like a pyscho and more like a girl who reads too many Gothic novels. Henry was also a gentleman in this version. He never called Catherine stupid once. I quite liked him. I was cheering for them to get together this time around. I was squeeing when he came back for her at her home and married her. ^^ Needless to say John Thrope was still creepy. Not mass murderer creepy this time, but still i wouldn't want to be anywhere near him.

Winner: Obviously Northanger Abby (007)
