OOM: Glee Anselm.

Glee Anselm. Not exactly the prettiest planet in the galaxy - what with it's hurricanes, storms, and swampy landmass. Although the Chiss had helped the Anselmi install duracrete roadways in the past, the city in which they had docked wasn't exactly something one would look for in a holo-brochure ( Read more... )

Reminded her of the space station. Except the Cantina was steady. It didn't shake, nothing fell down. No-one was aiming the storm here, no religious zealots ready to bring it down around her head. Aeryn smiled suddenly, gesturing with her 'not bad' drink.

"The gamma disturbances in this area are quite beautiful."

Too many memories related to storms, she thought, remembering how pretty the view from that window on Earth had been; cloudy and grey, but still glorious.

"Gamma disturbances?"

It takes Jaina a couple of seconds to realize that by gamma disturbances, Aeryn means storms. And by storms, she currently means the one raging a war outside the cantina.

"You mean storms, eh?" Her eyes flicker towards the window as her glass of warmed Jawa Juice sits rests by her chin. "Really spaced out there right now."

"Safe in here though." Her eyes followed the patrons carefully. So many different species, people mingling. Some spoke in hushed voices, others laughed uproariously.

She hid a smile behind her glass, tilting it backwards.

"I like it."

Jaina quirks an eyebrow and takes a slow sip from her glass. "Which? The cantina or the lightning show?"

She glances around, eyes narrowing in on a couple of Chiss sitting at the bar, and a human not too far away.

"I've been to better."

"Both." Aeryn responded.

John had accused her countless times of never being amazed by anything, of blocking out the excitement of new things. That was all in the past and yet here she was in an alien cantina in a different universe, barely surprised at all.

She swirled her glass, frowning at the trickle of drink that remained.

"You want anything else?" She looked towards the Bartender, waiting for Jaina's reply.

The remainder of the Jawa Juice dissapears quickly and Jaina nods, setting down the mug with a small clang when it hits the table.

"Why not? You?"

"We have time?" She tilted the glass and her head questioningly.

She shrugs, glancing at her wrist chronometer. "If it's a fast round."

A quick pivot put her face to face with the Bartender. He was a strange species, male she guessed from the attire. Two appendages protruded from the base of his skull, making her think of D'Argo's tankas. But the colouring, that startling blue, made her remember Zhaan. Surprisingly, this brought a smile to her face before she'd even ordered the drinks.

"Same again." She reached into her pockets for some of the strange currency Jaina had given her.

The twi'lek grinned at his customer; a sharp-toothed smile likely intending to be friendly, but coming across as rather more smarmy.

His deft hands prepared the drinks, but when the dark-haired woman reached for her money he shook his head. Peu'arn's Lekku slid over his shoulders as he leaned forward to explain:

"Two such beautiful ladies have no need to pay for this round."

His command of Basic was good. The words sliding like silk, not sounding fragmented even when he missed out some words.

Jaina doesn't attempt to cover the snort, and stares at him in such a manner that most would call it a glare.

"Excuse me?"

"Pilots, not ladies." Aeryn reprimanded, leaving the cash where it was. If he wanted to waste his attentions, fine. She snatched up the drink, using it to cover an amused smile.

A quick flicker, she let her eyes drift up and down his figure.

"And trust me, I'm not your type." Jaina could speak for herself.

"Married," Jaina replies, flashing her hand in view of the twi'lek - engangement and wedding rings clearly in place.

"So unless you want to end up in the wrong end of a vent shaft, why don't you vape off?"

He liked her. She had no class to speak of, but she was brave and smart.

And the taller one was clearly a fighter, whatever she claimed. They could be trouble. He held up his hand, leaning back.

It was not his job to worry about what trouble they might be.

"Merely gifts, to show my respect..."

He slid a tray of delicacies across the counter, with an entirely false servile smile.

"Please."

Jaina's eyebrow raises doubtfully at the drinks presented. Bartender of this cantina or not, she doesn't trust him. He's tricky - slimey, like a slithering Hutt's tail - and the way he talks and moves reminds her very much of the manipulating acts Alema would pull to get her way.

No hands reach for any of the drinks, and instead she just snorts again, glaring at him. "Respect?"

"Jaina..." There was a hint of warning in the soldier's tone.

No fighting, not here and it was pointless to quabble over it.

Whatever he wanted from them he wasn't getting. In her opinion, Jaina should just let it go.
