Yup, I'm in my very own office. With my very own door, my very own desk, my very own shelves, my very own filing cabinet, and about 8,000 of my very own chairs (srsly, I've got 7 chairs and a couch in my office--WTF?). Anyway, I go to teach my very own first class ever in about one hour. Nervous? Me? Why, just because I mis-typed the word "nervous" six times before getting it right?
I've got my lecture notes & everything, and really the first couple of lectures are total gimmes anyway, but still... I've never taught my own classes before. I've taught a couple of workshops, I've given some lectures, and I've TA'ed for about 80 classes, but this is my first ever full-load, 3 credit hour, 15-week all-mine courses. Sheesh.
Nope, not nervous over here. Nopenopenope.
Brian is in the same classroom right before me, too, which I think is hilarious. I hate that classroom, though. The desks are about 5 feet away from the blackboard. Where the hell am I supposed to stand and teach from? I don't even know if I can fit a podium between the desks and the wall. Gods forbid I want to pull down the screen to show a video or something--then I'll be down to about 3 feet of walking space, less than your average hallway.
But anyway, now I'm down to 55 minutes until I teach. I need to come up with something to do. Maybe I'll work on my Friday lecture. Oh, did I mention that I woke up with a pinched nerve in my back (probably from nervousness), and I spent most of the morning hunched over, in lots of joyous pain, barely able to walk? Yeah. I think it's better now--the bike ride to campus helped, but if my back goes out in the middle of class.... argh!
