March 2024, Spring Break, Hanggliding

Chesapeake Bay Bridge

Went to Kitty Hawk, Outer Banks NC this year for a brief Spring Break...it was great

we were right next to the beach

(I'm sure it's more crowded when it's not in the off-season)

first, we tried sand-sledding at Jockey's Ridge State Park, where there are large sand dunes. It didn't work out that well, bc the wind speed was about 20 mph, so we got really sand-blasted (even though we had the place to ourselves!), and the sand was still wet from previous rain, so it was too clumpy and sticky to sled well, but the kids tried *really* hard though.

The next day, the wind calmed down a bit, and the kids took a hanggliding lesson. It was really awesome, especially since my dad was a hanggliding pioneer back in the day, and got *his* start at Kitty Hawk. There was an on-ground lesson, and then the instructors helped to launch tethered gliding rides from the top of the dunes...each kid went about 11 times, and it was a perfect day for it.

clipped themselves in and everything

I hope they felt empowered and that they can do anything. really proud that they were brave enough to try it.

Also flew kites and hung out on the dunes

Also drove go-carts and went mini-golfing

Bodie Island Lighthouse

Did some souvenir-shopping at the docs in Duck, and went to Duck Donuts

We played lots of board games and chilled...overall, had a terrific time.

Tall tree taken down in front of the house

Spring Soccer and Spring Track are starting, and it's going to be a lot busier...
