Personally, Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite out of the entire series. It was really the book that drew me in, and it's because the plot was so intriguing. For the first time, we are reading about a legitimate threat to Harry's life - not that Voldemort isn't legit in the first two books, but he's very intangible, first attacking Harry as a spirit-like entity and then as a memory. But Sirius Black was a real live mass murderer who broke out of the Wizarding World's safest prison hell-bent on killing Harry for revenge. And as the story ran deeper and the plot thickened, we learned that not only was Black a mass murderer but he had also been James and Lily's best friend and had betrayed them to their deaths. The emotional struggle that this created for Harry glued that book together, along with discovering the secrets of the Marauders and the link among Sirius, Remus (ALSO SLASH, MAJOR SLASH), and Snape. This book was entirely about things not being what they seemed to be, and it gave us insight into Harry's past that we never had before. And it truly kicked off all the love for Marauder's-Era fics.
So yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARRY! You're getting so old! Soon your kids will be off to Hogwarts!
In other news, I think I'm going to go watch HBP again tonight. I've yet to see it for a second time, and I still haven't decided where it places in my ranking of the movies yet. Seems like a good way to celebrate.
