No on Prop 8 Rally

Oct 30, 2008 16:37

Allow me this moment of politicking, please...

My fellow Californians, for those of you who do not know, our ballot has on it an initiative to amend the State Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.  This is called Proposition 8, and it is America's tragedy.  If it passes, it will write discrimination and hate INTO the State Constitution, taking away the rights of decent, hard-working American citizens just like you and me.

You would think that something this wholly un-Constitutional would never have a chance against the Core Democratic Values of America, but the "Yes on 8" campaign, which is urging voters to strip their fellow neighbors of their rights, is gaining support.  The majority of our state is FOR discrimination.  I am astounded that someone would care so much about who I marry, that they would see me stripped of the ability to commit myself whole-heartedly to the man or woman of my dreams.

It's wrong.

And yet there is a strong, frightening chance that it will pass.  We cannot let this happen!  If our great state cannot provide equality for all, then how can we expect the rest of the country to do the same?  If we allow this proposition to pass, then America is NOT free and equal.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for...some?  That's not who this country is, and that's not who her citizens are either.

So I beg you, please vote NO on Proposition 8.

Vote NO to discrimination and hatred.  Vote NO to religious persecution and intolerance.  Vote NO to a Proposition that goes against everything for which our country stands.

Vote NO on Proposition 8.

With that in mind, myself and others are organizing a "No" rally in Fremont, and everyone is welcome to join.  We encourage supporters in the Bay Area to join us and help spread the word that Prop 8 is wrong.

Time: Noon until six (and anytime in between)

Where: Fremont, CA

Location: The corner of Fremont Blvd. and Mowry Ave. by Jamba Juice
