Top 10 EU Moments
(in chronological order)
(note I did not include Thrawn's death, Ton's death, or Ganner's death, as they were included in my EU quotes list)
1. Mara faces off with Vader - Allegiance
I absolutely love the dynamic between Mara Jade and Darth Vader. It is such a fascinating relationship, especially knowing what happens later on between Luke and Mara, and that Mara eventually comes into possession of Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber. This scene when he almost gives into his anger and kills her was actually frightening, even knowing that nothing could come of it. I hope to read more scenes with them together in the sequel.
2. Wedge’s revenge on Wes Janson - X-Wing: Solo Command
To get back at Wes, Wedge convinces Wes that there is an Ewok loose on board the Mon Remonda, and the only way to catch him is to strip naked and cover himself in Ewok bait. Which Wes does, to incredibly humorous results. I believe the phrase "grinning like a fool" accurately described me while reading this passage. "Nice rear, Lieutenant!"
3. First meeting of Luke and Mara - Heir the Empire
God you can HEAR the sparks between them. When I first read this scene, I thought, "What a bitch!" Now, when I read it, I think "Oh, just kiss each other already!" LOL.
4. Luke gives Mara his old lightsaber - The Last Command
My absolute favorite moment of the EU. Everything about it is perfect.
Except for when Dark Empire and the Jedi Academy Trilogy fucked everything up.
COME ON, PEOPLE! As I always say, you don't just give any woman your dead father's lightsaber!
5. Luke and Mara: FINALLY - Vision of the Future
I didn't know which moment to pick from this book, because there are so many good ones. If I HAVE to choose, it would be Mara's reflection after Luke proposes:
Under other circumstances, she knew, she would probably have considered herself honor-bound to make him sweat, just a little. But with the water still rising below them, such games seemed rather pointless. Besides, there was no reason for old defensive patterns to come into play. Not now. Not with him. "Yes," she said. "I will."
6. The Skywalker Jedi wedding - Union
Union is a pretty cheesy comic, but the shot of Luke and Mara after their Jedi wedding makes me grin from ear to ear. They both look so happy, especially Mara, which is so odd for her. And it's one of the rare images we have of her in Jedi robes.
7. The birth of Ben Skywalker - Edge of Victory II: Rebirth
FINALLY they have a Skycrawler, and that stupid Yuuzhan Vong disease was gone forever.
8. Han comforts Leia after Anakin Solo’s death - Star by Star
Most people would choose Anakin's death as a greater moment, but the following chapter, when Leia feels his death and Han realizes what has happened, is much more heartbreaking to me:
"Let go, Leia." He gently began to pry Ben free. "You need to let me take him."
Her gaze drifted toward his face, but her eyes seemed to look through him without seeing anything. "Han?"
"That's right." Han caught Lando's eye and passed him Ben, then wrapped Leia in his arms and held her--he just held her. "I'm here, Princess. I'll always be here."
Oh God I don't even ship them that much but it's sooooooo sad. (So sad I even wrote a vignette about it!)
9. Luke Skywalker goes out with a blaze of glory with a Red Devourer - Enemy Lines II: Rebel Stand
Luke had to wade into a pool of goo that eats anything organic in order to get to a control panel. As he walks through the goo, he tells it through the Force, "I am not food."
Mara suppressed a laugh; it came out as a cough. "Luke, before you step out and join us, out of respect for those of us you're not married to, you might want to be sure that you're presentable."
Luke glanced down. His torso was bare. He reached down into the goo. The submerged portions of his garment were missing, too.
He reached the edge of the tank and stood close to it. "I guess I forgot to tell the stuff, 'My clothes aren't food, either.'"
"I guess you did."
"Could you pass me my pack?"
Come on. It's a scene where Luke gets naked. You knew it was gonna be on my list.
10. Luke decapitates Shimmra - The Unifying Force
Then all at once, Anakin's lightsaber flew from Shimmra's grasp into Luke's left hand.
Through his Vongsense, Jacen could feel Shimmra's astonishment and dismay.
In a motion almost too swift for Jacen's eyes to follow, Luke slit the throat of Shimmra's amphistaff. As its coils began to relax, he sliced his own lightsaber blade upward, cutting the amphistaff's body into segments. As a horrified Shimmra leaned forward, as if to vise his huge hands around Luke's neck, Luke crossed the blades and shoved them upwards toward Shimmra's neck. The blades burned clean through. Shimmra's decapitated head dropped to the floor with a loud thud! and his body crumbled.
And he did it after being stabbed in the chest with Shimmra's amphistaff.
This, boys and girls, is why Luke Skywalker is the biggest BAMF in the GFFA.
