Work

'Twas a crazy day at work today. It started out with our first delivery getting there right about the same time I did--I wasn't even clocked in yet when the guy called (and technically shouldn't have clocked in for several more minutes) and said he was at our back door. So I clocked in, and went and got his stuff off our back step and into the store. Then I had to go back and finish up what I had been doing in the cash office (getting the paperwork together and making sure the tills and safe had the correct amount in them). Then once I got the paperwork done, I had to check in the stuff we got, and Cody and I were putting out stock for the first hour we were open.

After that, I started on the cats and was just about to clean the first cage out when Cody comes up to me and says that the crickets have mites. And since the usual treatment for mites is basically an insecticide, neither of us knew a way of getting rid of the mites. I called a different store and all they could suggest was moving the crickets to a different case and then cleaning the first one thoroughly. I'd barely got started on doing the cats again when the groomer rang and said that her grandma was in the hospital and she really needed tomorrow off. Fortunately nothing had been scheduled yet as far as the grooming, other than one couple who had made an appointment just a short time before, so I told her I'd call them and see if they would reschedule and would get back to her. Unfortunately, the magazine lady and the guy from Rug Doctor were both there, and then of course we had a line of people, so by the time I got through with all of them, I had to go back to doing the cat cages. I finally get them all cleaned out, and was working on getting everyone water when this lady wanted help carrying out a 16 lb. container of litter, so as I was bring it up to the register, Cody informs me that another lady wanted to adopt a cat. So I end out sending Cody out with the one lady's cat litter and have to do the adoption forms for this kitten which she apparently fell in love with in about 5 minutes' time. And of course the kitten was one of the handful of cats that I'd actually finished what I was doing with their cages, so I ended up having to toss the food and water I'd just put in his bowl a short time before and clean out his cage again...

Then I finally had a chance to work on making copies of the paperwork from the deliveries this morning and making tags for stuff that needed it (and apparently at least one of the items wasn't ringing up at all, because they gave our IT lady the wrong sku). What actually happened to the tags that were supposed to be put up last Thursday (some of which were part of the stuff I was making tags for), I have no idea, because I wasn't there. They're not the file where they're supposed to be kept, and they're not on the shelf, so I don't know where they ended up being put... By the time I got that straightened out, and the credit form sent to the place who sent us our delivery (because they shorted us one bag of dog food), it was almost time for me to go to the bank. And by the time I got back from the bank, which was an adventure in itself, because they're not only working on the major intersection they've been doing stuff to for the past year+, but also decided to repave the street that I need to take to go to the bank, so there was one lane of traffic in one direction as they sliced up the road), it was nearly time to go...

And I get to do it all over again tomorrow. I just hope that my boss isn't mad about me allowing the groomer to have the days off this week. But I do know what it's like to have a grandma who has cancer all through her body--both of mine had that, in fact--and what it's like when they essentially give up. If he's mad at me, fine, but there's not a thing I can do about it. There was only one dog scheduled between Wednesday and Thursday anyway, and that's the one I had scheduled (and later rescheduled) today.

I can't wait til my boss comes back on Thursday...
