I liked Jezebel.com's take on this NPR interview on how "U.S. born Asian-American women are more likely to attempt suicide than other groups."

"So, to recap: Let's say you have extremely traditional parents who encourage you to achieve at all costs, discourage any admission of weakness, and think the cure for depression is working harder. And you grow up in a society that tells you the only two good things you can be are a fucktoy and a submissive doll, and if you're not one of those, you're probably a mean, nasty "dragon lady" - all of which is reinforced by a lifetime of sexist and racist slurs. If you seek therapy, your chances of finding a counselor with a similar background are virtually nil, and a typical Western one is likely to tell you your parents are abusive assholes and/or turn the session into storytime, with you as the fascinating, "exotic" raconteur. Yeah, I think I can see where the despair might come from."

heh.

Let's see. What else...hmm...

"Witchcraft" trials are on the rise around the world, where women and children are killed cuz their neighbors/husbands/family/parents think they are witches.

Apparently Glenn Beck has always been an a-hole. In 1987...

When Beck and Hattrick produced a local version of Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds...Kelly [a talk radio rival] told a local reporter that the bit was a stupid rip-off of a syndicated gag. The slight outraged Beck, who got his revenge with what may rank as one of the cruelest bits in the history of morning radio.

"A couple days after Kelly's wife, Terry, had a miscarriage, Beck called her live on the air and says, 'We hear you had a miscarriage,' " remembers Brad Miller, a former Y95 DJ and Clear Channel programmer. "When Terry said, 'Yes,' Beck proceeded to joke about how Bruce [Kelly] apparently can't do anything right -- about he can't even have a baby."

I think that's supposed to be a no-no in polite society. Just saying. (Why didn't someone end his career there? thanks a lot, Phoenix AZ radio.)
