Planet of the Dead

An okay story. Nothing special or spectacular... just meh. There were some points I didn't understand, such as: Why didn't the Doctor simply use the TARDIS to track the wormhole? And why didn't UNIT send a truck with the TARDIS on board through said wormhole to help the Doctor?

It all started off well enough, but once the bus arrived in the desert... absolutely nothing happened except for talking, talking, talking... wandering around... talking, talking, talking... until the 30 minute mark when things FINALLY started to pick up again. I was bored senseless!

The manta ray swarm were an interesting concept, but hardly original. Anyone remember the Nimon? I'm still stumped as to how these creatures could fly so fast to create a wormhole when it took them forty-forever to even reach the bus.

I think the best thing about the whole episode was Lee Evans' Malcolm. Now I have no idea who Michelle Ryan is. At first I thought she was Selma Blair. David Tennant gave a more understated performance this time around, which is always a good thing.

Now I don't want to sound like a "hater", but the relentlessly sycophantic attitude characters have toward the Doctor makes me want to vomit. I think this quote from the classic series sums it up:

"You're a very brave man, Doctor."

"I'm just doing what has to be done."

Nowadays we get:

"Oh, Doctor! You're such a heroic legend and you never ask for thanks! You are the thing of legend and you're fire and ice and your wonderful and three cheers for the Doctor and I love you!"

"Yeah I am wonderful, aren't I?"

The Doctor has always been a bit arrogant but people used to be peed off about his maverick attitude and slight arrogance but now the show keeps telling us how much of a wonderful outstanding hero he is and how he's "a lonely god" and all that and it's just sickening and takes away from the fact he's supposed to be a bit of a mysterious rebel Time Lord.

I mean, come on, we know the Doctor's amazing; why do we have to be actually told every ten minutes?

doctor who, the tenth doctor, david tennant
